TYSON’S PRIME — News recently broke that Martin Scorsese is working on a Mike Tyson biopic that will star Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx.
Tyson’s meteoric rise and equally spectacular fall from boxing royalty is the perfect fodder for Hollywood and who better to direct than Scorsese?
I don’t know if Foxx would be my first choice, but I’m not a casting director — I should be — but Foxx should do well and I have a feeling he’s going to bulk up and scare us all to death.
While I’m anxiously waiting to see the movie, Tyson himself wants your input as to which of his jaw-busting KO’s should be in the film.
Tyson released a 57-minute video on his YouTube page of his 44 knockouts and he wants you to let him and Marty know which ones should make it into the film. Even if you don’t vote watch the video. It’s absolutely mesmerizing. You will start out thinking you’ll watch one or two, but it will be next to impossible to not watch the entire video.
It’s been years since I’ve seen Tyson in action and I forgot how phenomenal he was in the ring in his prime. It honestly feels as if the 5’10” ball of fury was generated in a lab and built with science and some kind of wicked voodoo.
Tyson was an absolute powerhouse and the arguments that he was the best ever in his prime are all valid. I was terrified to punch in 007 373 5963 into Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out cause I didn’t want to face 16-pixel Mike, let alone meeting him in an actual ring. Fellow Flix Junkie Travis Poppleton says he beat Tyson in the game once, but I have my doubts.
Regardless, watch the video and get excited for what is sure to be a heart-breaking and powerful film.
