CBS films has just announced that it will be moving forward with “The Sense of an Ending,” based on Julian Barnes bestselling novel.

Film Nation Entertainment recently had distribution rights here in the US, but CBS acquired said rights for the film which has been developed by BBC Films and is currently being directed by Ritesha Batra. Award-winning playwright Nick Payne has penned the script.

From  the studio:

The film stars Academy Award® winner Jim Broadbent (Iris), Charlotte Rampling (Melancholia), Harriet Walter (The Young Victoria), Emily Mortimer (Hugo), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Billy Howle (The Seagull), Freya Mavor (The White Queen) and Joe Alywn (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk).

Tony Webster (Broadbent) leads a reclusive and quiet existence until long buried secrets from his past force him to face the flawed recollections of his younger self, the truth about his first love and the devastating consequences of decisions made a lifetime ago.  “THE SENSE OF AN ENDING represents a perfect storm of creative talent,” commented CBS Films President Terry Press.  “It combines a superb cast led by the incomparable Jim Broadbent, the exceptional taste of FilmNation, BBC Films and Origin, and the beautiful talents of director Ritesh Batra whom we have been hoping to work with since audiences fell in love with The Lunchbox.”
